With the rise of electric vehicles, laser stripping is becoming ever more important. Alro has therefore developed an innovative application that uses laser technology to selectively strip large metal parts. A laser robot can strip parts extremely accurately in a fully automated way.
We currently use this application a lot for the e-mobility industry once the parts have been KTL coated. The KTL process gives the parts the best possible protection against corrosion. Selective laser stripping is necessary for the parts’ optimal operation in electric cars. Thanks to this technology, we no longer need to shield certain parts from the dipping process.
One specific example of laser stripping is the aluminium battery casing of Audi electric vehicles. After the part’s KTL treatment, the coating racks arrive at the lifts via the buffer system. The robots then take the individual parts from the racks and place them in the laser chamber in a clamp-forward position. The robotic laser system very accurately removes the coating from the large surrounding connection surfaces and the battery contact points in each cell. After the laser treatment, a robot places the parts on the monorail where the battery casings get a PVC seal. All the parts then undergo all the necessary quality checks. Finally, the parts can go to Audi Brussels to be filled with batteries. They are an important part of the magnificent Audi e-tron.
